i wouldn't recommend tourniquet, the ABCs of emergency care are AIRWAY, BREATHING CIRCULATION, maintain an airway so they can breathe, make sure they are breathing properly then you worry about bleeding, you wont live to bleed out if you cant breathe, i would substitute your tourniquet for trauma bandages that are elastic and keep pressure on the wound without stopping circulation, tourniquets aren't proven to be very effective, some hemo-static bandages would also be a good? blood stopper

the seat belt blade(with safety tip) will go through the seat belt faster than the trauma shears. it also has the window punch and? glass saw to cut through windshields. Best of luck in your first aid, A word of advice. have three uses for everything you carry and it will be useful.

Matt is correct- BVM is rarely used. I'll admit there have been times when I probably should have used it but didn't. People are afraid to be aggressive with that airway, but people also forget that without that? airway, your PT will go down hill fast...not breathing tends to create a bit of a problem. And remember, if you use a BVM on a conx. PT, they WILL fight you. Not because they're trying to be a butt, but because they're body knowns its not natural. Try it in class with a buddy next time

Remember 02 is a drug, thus you "have" to have a Rx for it, even tho a lot of people dont. So if you have 02 hook it up, but you can use a BVM w/o 02. In your book it? probably has a section about 21% oxygen in room air, 44% w/ N/C @ 3 lpm if I remember correctly, etc. BVM w/o 02 is room air... In a CPR situation you're going to get excited- I even suggest counting to 6 or 7 b/c in reality that 6 in your head might be 4sec in actuality.

As for the BVM, it is one of the most underused tools in EMS, your patient does not have to be apneic in order to use it, neither do you need an oxygen source. As far as the O2, it's not a matter of temp sensitivities, but more of a? matter of creating a hazard for first responders in the event you were to get into an car accident/ collision.

hmm i'm currently in EMT school and our brady medical books as well as the instructors prompt us to ventilate with BVM at 15l/min o2 1 breath every 3-5 seconds getting around 12 breaths per minute (about the average breathing rate) is your info up to date? also i? didn't know you used a BVM without o2 instead a CPR mask unless o2 also why not store o2 in your car? im very doubtful it will cause any problems as far as i know o2 in standard bottles in good condition aren't that temp sensitive

Nice pack. I'm a nursing student and I have to say? that you got a pretty good stock right there. I got one in my car also but its a lot smaller. Just a reminder, don't use iodine right away since the person can have a really bad allergic reaction. I have betadine in my bag also and I also include a bottle of water with antibacterial foams (just in case). I do recommend getting more tape, erasable marker, and a couple of SAM Splints. Very nice video.

I would ditch the quick clot ASAP. I've used it three times, in combat, and it is nearly impossible to use by? yourself, it burns, and needs a lot of gauze to use correctly. Get combat gauze. It's lighter, and easier to use. I'd also lose the NPA, those aren't useful unless you are en route to a hospital, not nearly enough air passes through them. Add foot powder, and anti-diarrhea tablets, and bigger gauze rolls. Leave the halo's out, you'd die within 3 hours without surgery anyways. Good video.

THANK YOU for the advice! I am only red cross first aid trained. I was wanting to get trained as a paramedic, but I? dont think I could handle the job day in and day out. I worked in the ER for about 2 years as a registrant. The bag is called a Condor EMT.

A tourniqet for excessive bleeding (use with caution) and amputations if it came to? that. I would add a big stock of basic pain killers and anti-inflammatories. More sterile saline/water a suture kit (setrile forceps and needle holder) and remember you have to close a wound within 12-24 hours or leave it open and treat with ABs. And the airway, Id be very careful putting that in and only on an uncousious person. Are you medically trained. Where did you get the bag from, its nice for the job.

At the moment its not really a "trauma bag" Its more just an advanced first aid kit. Im a ER nurse so my experience with trauma and injury is a little extensive. I would drop the eye antibiotics and other ear and eye related stuff and replace it with sterile saline for eye flushes? if you have eye issues. I would definatly add more combine absorbent padding and a half dozen thick crepe bandages for holding pressure on wounds.

Little heavy on the Quik Clot. What do you plan to use to hold it on place? Tape, gauze rolls? Not good? enough. You need compression dressings like an Israeli or add some 5X9's and an ace bandage. Also add some compressed gauze or kerlix, eye wash, coflex. The quick clot gauze is better than the sponge. Overall, a decent kit. Thanks for the video.

Some critique: Iosat doesn't treat radiation poisoning, it prevents uptake of radio iodine into the thyroid (extremely important difference); your kit should be refrigerated if you keep antibiotics in it, consider replacing the? NPA with OPAs of different sizes or dump it altogether if you'r not carrying a means of artificial ventilation. You also need plenty of sterile dressings, bandaging tape, more gloves, eye protection, sterile saline, a tourniquet, etc. if you're gonna call it a trauma kit.

If you are using the Quikclot embedded bandages than I agree to keep it. If it is just the Quikclot grains then that is a bad idea. Quikclot has to be removed surgically and is prone to getting into veins and arteries (which is the only type of bleeding where Quikclot should be utilized) and sealing either in the heart itself or somewhere along the length of the vein/artery. It also gets extremely? hot and will bond with your hand if it has blood or other liquids on it.

I think this is a good kit, I like the Condor EMT rip away- priced nicely. Got 4 in the family so we have four BOKs, some are a little different but just slightly in case we separate. Ok, three things, I did not see tape, have to have medical tape or? electrical tape or some kind of tape in your med bag. Military IFAK's? always have tape. Next I did not see any self adhesive ace wrap or any kind of wrap. Cant use gauze very well with out a top wrap to hold it all in, especially without tape. Also , get rid of the quick clot and get the celox clotting gauze. the quick clot must be removed from the wound later. CELOX! Isreali bandages, air shrunk mil spec bandages.

Yes, some people do have latex allergies, But it is fewer than one would think. We are happy to change out the gloves to nitrile. FYI: modern latex gloves have far less of the protein that people are allergic to (from say 15 years ago). This is the smallest of our emergency response kits in the series. Our EMT, paramedic and disaster response kits all include pocket masks. Do you know of any good videos on medic procedures and or skill sets? Like you say, just because we have this stuff doesn't make us field medics. A lot of preppers have EMT-B, volunteer search and rescue and such, but could use more information and training materials. Also, is there a "correct way" to pack a Black Hawk STOMP pack? Very informative and necessary. Well organized packs - very important to save time for those emergencies. Just a? couple of suggestions for? those watching. Make sure you periodically check the alcohol preps and gloves for degradation. Also keep the kits in a controlled environment - no extreme temp. variances over time. Nice vid I have aready bought four ETA kits and finished them off with CATs and shears that have been " loaned" to me from friends. Quick note: Showing one of these kit to a fellow worker who is a retired paramedic, he had no idea that these existed. Granted he never served so he was never exposed to this, but it might be worth it to put some sort of identifier on the kit so first responders can find it easily in your go bag in case you cant. Great video, Number 1 bigger? kit means more stuff you pack in your kit that you don't need and to get in the way and more weight, These kits are for yourself only so you don't need a ton of stuff Just enough to control the wound and get off the X, Both NPAs are just as good and i have used both. It's nice to have lube but not needed just makes it easier to insert, saliva or blood works. Also i use both the cat and SOF TQs and are great I have only heard of the CATs breaking

Great kit but you could also consider instead of the cooling relief pads spenco 2nd skin, the stuff is great for both cuts/abrasions and burns. from CVS you can get packets of meds to replace the big bottles and you can also get smaller bottles of iodine so you'll have room for more things. + I reccomend saline wash or? wipes from CVS.

A rescue mirror is a good idea. Small suture pack. Ring cutter is really great to carry. Shock blanket. I have read some Medical Journal articles that say that quick clot was just as effective as regular bandages and direct pressure, I havent worked with quick clot myself? though. Vionex packets, sinus rinse packets that can be used to flush the eyes, masks and goggles. Albuterol rescue inhaler, allergy and regular visine.

That is a nice kit. You might want to think of some advanced airway such as a set of king tubes. They are nice to have in case of a real? emergency. You also might want to pick up a BVM, They are large but easier to use then a pocket mask.

Hi Que777II, I would have a box of 12 if my space allowed it. As you move up in space you can add more sutures. It just depends on your limitations and the variation of issues you want to treat. If you are only concerned? with suturing, then 20 sutures are great. If you have a need to for variety then the sutures may take up space that could be dedicated to burns, bleeding, sprains, etc. It really is a matter of what YOU think may happen and the items you need to pack to prepare for ALL of those.

It's an IFAK bro, nothing more nothing less, the upgrade to this would be a CLS bag in the military however? you have less than 1/2 the required gear. An IFAK is an individual First Aid Kit, it has nothing to do with combat life saving. The most common killer amongst military members in combat is chest decompression, imagine a first aid kit +PVC mat. and a catheter hence the IFAK. +2 Ibuprofen tabs. Nothing special, invest in a skill set not mediocre med surplus.

If you only stop the blood you will increase internal bleeding thus causing compartment syndrome. or worst yet increase the bleeding by cutting off the the venous blood return and letting the arterial blood flow distal to the wound or cut. by shutting off the return rout of the blood flow thus causing an increase of blood loss. you have 2-4 hours without difficulty, even up to 6 hours in some cases before there is a total loss.

Please get proper training before you use this stuff! I see some people saying to include a decompression needle but that's so dangerous if it's not placed correctly. Also you don't want gauze in a chest wound a pneumothorax sucks in air and the gauze might disappear into the chest. Just seal? it and watch for tension pneumo.

I never said I got my kit for $20. To be honest i invested about $50 in a my kit and all of my supplies came out of my local medical supply house or from friends who work in hospitals.? If I had to invest another $20 I would look around for a CAT tourniquet. But for the price of your kit I have all kinds of the things in this kit plus some band aids and meds and stuff

Well that's good to hear; when I went through EMT phase, they wanted you to secure an airway and maintain breathing before you got to controlling hemorrhage, and like I said my local ems wasn't allowed to use tourniquets?!? yet alone have other adequate means to control bleeding. Military medics definitely aren't trained to paramedic standards on drugs and diagnosing stuff but? hemorrhage control is our baby. Keep up the good work.

We are taught the same things as you? brother, tourniquet, direct pressure, pressure wrappings, packing with gauze. the only thing i cant do by law if put in an iv but our transport times are within 10 minutes so sometimes it does not matter. I am not positive but if a military medic goes to the civilian world they are only a emt not a paramedic.

In Ebay, most dealers who have military grade first aid stuff, don't sell overseas. If lucky to find a dealer with some of the items, they sell to europe expedited only. Than order item here and there+delivery cost each... Again starting to form bit expensive kit... Just last week one? of my favorite routes for nice items got unused IFAK for about 100$, I am not sure if quickclot is still there, but I doubt it. Still, I think I will choose that as basis for my kit.

Sure, most items can be collected from various locations, for example UK or some other EU countries too. Would you pay 65$ for quickclot, 47$ for CAT and 20$ for israeli bandage + postage? Still not including those modern designs of IFAK pouch, HALO etc.? I believe there is market for well built kits in Europe too, but no one doesn't seem to want sell them to us.

It is very important to have a FA kit that is stock within your lane and scope of practice. I am glad you have a set up that works for you. I will have to disagree with your assessment of the SOF-T or CAT. They are extremely easy to apply to yourself when required. I am speaking? as a BTDT...they work they save lives. Caviat emptor. It took them 2 months to ship the first part of my order, and when it finally shipped, it was only half my order. It took another month to get the O2 tank an much of the rest of the gear. I placed the original order in February. It's now June and I'm still waiting on the BVM, the C-collar and the rest of the inventory. I have been unable to get through to? anyone since April and I have pretty much given up on hearing from them again and really--at this point--I just don't care.

I ordered from them and had no problem. I tried finding reviews on them before ordering and there aren't that many out there other than the ones left by customers on Ebay. Found this review and one on Kold Smoke? .com and that's it. Other stuff that turned up was just charity stuff. I got their Truck Series and had some 4x4s back ordered and other bandages, but there was a checklist that said it would be back ordered and the date it would be sent out. Got my stuff no problem. This vid helped!

4. As a general rule, after each and every trek into the woods, one should take a tepid? shower and quickly soap up with poison ivy soap just as a preventive measure. 1. A scrub-based cream for immediate application. This attaches to the urushiol oils and washes them off the skin before they can propagate and cause blisters. 2. Afterwards, Benadryl spray is excellent? to apply directly to the exposed areas to make sure the itching is keep to an absolute minimum. 3. Benadryl capsules (by mouth) are useful for a.) keeping the itching down, and b.) getting to sleep at night.

I would recommend you saving your meds and pain killers for this expressed purpose - one can perhaps get away with adding 6 months to the expiration date. Rotate out often. ? Firstly, stay within your training and scope of practice. Think about what kind of injuries you might be treating with your kit, and how far a hospital is. Most first aid is scrapes, bruises, sprains, and minor stings -? if you want a kit that you can actually USE regularly, and not just look pretty, you need stuff for minor injuries. Unless you're in a very accident-prone area you probably won't see or treat much trauma, and a kit stuffed primarily with trauma supplies will gather a lot of dust.

I've only had it for a few weeks now so it hasn't had any "tests" to see how durable it is. The bag is definately constructed well and appears that it should hold up quite well. I did update 'info' for this video with some extra stuff that I put in...mainly extra supplies so I don't run out in the bag? after one call.

I personally think BDS makes? some pretty bad gear for the money. I bought the "Simple Stacker" Chest rig and it kinda sucked, Stiching was crooked, and it just felt cheap. I was looking into this bag, and just realized I could use the Kodiak Gearslinger, its cheaper and Maxpedition qaulity. This bag is a great design, just too expensive. Just picked up a Gearslinger as per reccomendation.

ur a little off on the whole 'front line' awspect of the bag, no disrespect. being a Navy Corpsman i can tell you that it seems like a perfect bag for patrols, theres a difference between patroling n doing sick call in the rear, theres no need for extra tools like say ent kits, lot of IVs, lot of meds etc. u pack tournys, gauze, cric kits, needle Ts, occlusives, etc Anything extra that u dont patrol with u throw it in a standard med bag n use that as a sick call/resupply bag.?

great video but i don't think i would ever recommend a premade kit to anyone. Unless you are going to spend 300-400 dollars ( which someone without medical training would never buy) all the kits are junk. It would be better to have a $20 kit with just gauze and pads than? a 60 buck bag of band aids.

Thats great that you are certified at 12. There needs to be more like you out there. I saved a life when I was 10. That was a long time ago now, however? that is what got me interested more into medical.

It depends on what you want to do with the kit. Here for example is mostly a trauma kit, so there are numerous sizes bandages, bandaids, ace wrap, gauze and such. If you want a basic kit, the start with small stuff like bandaids, cleaning solution, ace bandage and such and build from there. If you have any? other questions feel free to PM me. Good day Mate! I'm very interested in First Aid. I'm currently an Observer within St. John Ambulance, although I may soon be a AMFR lvl. 1, I've tried to put together my own "First Aid Response Bags" but I just can't get it right! I've looked everywhere? on the internet for ideas, but with minimal results. I'm interested in getting this bag (empty) so I can put together my own kit. Is there anyway you could direct me as to what I should have in this Kit? Thank you for reading this comment! :)

I am a big advocate of First? Aid and CPR for everyone. That is GREAT what you do for deaf people, just because they have a disability doesnt mean that they dont need to know what to do in case of emergencies

That's what I thought. Most showing their kits seem to First Responders or EMTs. I want to push for many to learn First Aide. I work with deaf people and we've had CPR classes for deaf only- bec (They wouldn't necessarily be running for the phone-but They? want it _being new parents (Heimlich,etc) as well as around older family these days. I interpret them for free-just get an instructor...EXCELLENT INFO!

I though ppl? had to give their EMT license number to get a jump bag? Community college or Tech school mostly. It usually takes a year going 2 days a week, however there are courses that can take much less time if you go full time. Or if you get hired with a fire dept, they will? usually send you.
