I just recently found these video's, and I must? say, they are amazing. The drawings are fun to watch, thus keeping your attention, but the messages they convey are phenomenal. We need more thinkers like this in the world. As quoted in the movie "The Great Dictator": "Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men, machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts." These words have never seemed truer than right now.

You know what's visual overload? A 30 second commercial that cuts 60 times. I found this rather easy and simple to follow through, and the visuals all help to? aid the speaker by supplying nonverbal communication, which matches the para-linguistic skills of Sir Ken Robinson. If you find it overloading, read a transcript, or turn your monitor off: don't ruin the fun for the rest of us.

Well, the statement that the medication is anaesthetising people when we need to? do the opposite is a bit disingenuous given that the medications are stimulants.
By: rh001YT. on 14 May 13, 06:11:12
You're not being duped, you are being made useful & well-rounded so you can support yourself -hunting&gathering is no longer possible-and so you can take part in society, the noosphere. Few under 23 really know what they want to do realistically, and the wants change as more knowledge is acquired. As a child, Manmohan Singh probably didn't know what an economist & financial guru was, but that he became and then,? perhaps only whimsically dreamed in his child head, he found himself PM of India.
By: conman2317. on 13 May 13, 18:33:59
does anyone else feel like we've all been duped by society? its disheartening to know you spend a HUGE chunk? of your life in school, not ever DOING what you want, just being TOLD what to do.
By: Joe Vaughan. on 13 May 13, 18:18:19
RSA appears to be about questioning general concepts, so all those demanding immediate change based on the 11 minutes of video you just saw have? clearly completely missed the point. Question things, also take things on board, but peer evaluation is what made us as a species what we are.
By: BUREAU of CHANGE. on 13 May 13, 12:10:24
Yes, education institutions around the world are in the midst of reform. But will they make the right changes? Higher education governance is under-unscrutinized and thus ripe for conflicts of interest and incentive structures? that defy changes that benefit student learning. Do colleges truly prioritize education and adapting to what students need for success? Or do they prioritize faculty, administration, corporate interests? Search YouTube? for *EDUCATION NOT GUARANTEED to see what I mean.
By: rh001YT. on 12 May 13, 21:22:30
Because the West is committed, more or less to freedom, children are not slotted into adult-determined fate based on their aptitudes at time of testing, but are allowed to try to hone their skills, and as we assume their fate is not totally predestined, children are educated in a wide variety of subjects allowing them to discover aptitudes unknown to them. So in the? West we do not have a craft or caste system. Billions have invented, engaged in commerce and prospered without neuroscience.
By: MangaAlways. on 12 May 13, 14:41:06
still 700 thumbs down, ain't? bad at all!
By: Qianhan Xiong. on 12 May 13, 11:49:45
When the? mechanism underlying learning is better understood, maybe one day we would be able to educate children not only according to their outcomes/grades/behaviours but also their motivation/cognition/social competence etc. (last reply)
By: Qianhan Xiong. on 12 May 13, 11:49:16
Traditional education should not be abandoned indeed, but it can become better. This view is also explicitly demonstrated by Ken Robinson in his recent talk on ted. By progress I mean the recent trend in cognitive neuroscience and education. Scientists across the world are? investigating the mechanism of learning by utilizing methods such as neuroimaging and microgenesis. Grade probably is an important aspect, but it cannot represent everything about learning.
By: rh001YT. on 12 May 13, 08:30:17
We, the Western world and the rest of the world are progressing, astonishingly fast. This progress is due mostly to those who got good grades and had the drive, from birth, to create astonishing new stuff, and by others, perhaps less brilliant, who are still competent enough to work with the brilliant ones, including those who make the equipment to make the astonishing new? stuff. All such persons acquired their organized knowledge in mostly trad edu settings. To what "progress" do you refer?
By: Qianhan Xiong. on 11 May 13, 20:42:45
Good grades? and compliments from others might represent learning to some extent, but if they are not due to intrinsic motivation, we would not have it for life and we would not know how to educate next generation to be better. Those are things that grades cannot give, and that's why we need to progress.
