Temperatures don't go up or down without any reason. The point is that your side claims a strong effect of CO2 on the temperature. In the last 15 years, we have emitted 30% of all the CO2 that man has ever emitted in history. The effect on the temperatures has been - nothing at all. Back to your hadCRUT3 data, even though there is a slight drop in temperature during that 15 year period, the? overall trend is the temperature is heading up not down or remaining the same. The reason why the temperature went down during that time is due to the fact that the average temperature within a small expanse of a few years will fluctuate.

The best temperature data we have for that period is the satellite data which covers the sea as well as the land. There was no increase at all in the 1980's (see; RSS MSU and UAH MSU (NOAA) data) Land-based data from GISS, HadCRUT3 or NCDC all show 0.1c increase in the? 1980's. These three databases have been 'adjusted' often, and also are affected by urban heat island. Most scientists think the satellite data is more accurate. The flat period of temps is 1998-now. You are quite correct. Although more CO2 should, in theory, cause more warming, there is no experimental evidence showing exactly how much this is. As you say, we cannot really know what effect CO2 has until at least all the main natural forcings are known; and we are a very long? way from measuring and knowing these. All we really know about CO2 right now is that its effect on the temperature must be either very small or non-existant.

I just found it very strange that someone can be a spokesman for this Global Warming / climate Change crap and yet never talk about Geo-Engineering which surely is having an affect on climate. And we are told the reason for the Geo-engineeering is to combat global warming even if it doesn't exist. They estimate that there's a 50% chance that Lake Mead and Powell will run dry by 2021. That was before the mega drought of 2012. NOAA predicts the drought to "continue or intensify for 2013." Also as you rightly said, acid rain was an? issue but tighter regulations on industry helped mitigate harmful effects. The same can be said for the hole in the Ozone layer (whichwas a real issue).Emissions of CFC's were found to cause it's breakdown and regulations were put in place to mitigate this and now the problem with the OZone layer nolonger exists.
